More About Kevin Lumpkin

Biography:

Kevin Lumpkin joined the firm in November 2013 and is a principal of the firm.  Kevin is an experienced litigator in the practice areas of complex commercial litigation, medical malpractice defense, consumer fraud and consumer protection litigation, class actions, breach of contract litigation, and other areas of civil litigation.  He is both a trial and appellate litigator and has participated in numerous jury and bench trials.

Kevin’s practice focuses primarily on civil litigation, serving businesses and individuals.  He practices in both state and federal court and before various State agencies and boards.  Kevin also regularly serves as local counsel for national law firms, providing guidance and strategic advice regarding local procedures and customs.  Before joining Sheehey, Kevin was a law clerk for the Vermont Superior Courts in Bennington, Addison, and Chittenden Counties.

In 2020, Vermont Business Magazine recognized Kevin as one of 40 rising stars under 40.  For every year from 2015 through 2023, Super Lawyers magazine has named Kevin to its list of Rising Stars in New England in the practice area of business litigation. In 2016, Kevin received the Vermont Bar Association’s Distinguished Pro Bono Service Award for providing indigent litigants with legal representation through a pro bono clinic at the civil division of the Chittenden Superior Court.

Notable Representations:

  • Represented a publicly traded cybersecurity company concerning trade secrets and employee mobility litigation.
  • Defended several companies in actions brought under the Vermont Consumer Protection Act (VCPA) by the Vermont Attorney General and private plaintiffs.
  • Successfully defended physician in a jury trial against medical malpractice allegations with another Sheehey partner.
  • Successfully defended many clients against lawsuits in Vermont trial courts and on appeal to the Vermont Supreme Court.
  • Regularly represents corporations in complex commercial disputes in Vermont Superior Court, the District of Vermont, and the Vermont Supreme Court.
  • Regularly represents physicians and other health care providers before professional conduct and licensing boards and in connection with medical malpractice lawsuits.
